Occasionally we see references to “staff and volunteers” which makes us wonder just how that particular organisaiton views their volunteers and how those volunteers feel about their place in the organisation. Here at Volunteering Cantebury, when we use the word “staff” we mean everyone who works here. If we feel the need to make a distinction we are inclined to say “staff (volunteer and paid)”. Our dictionary defines “staff” as “body of persons working in office, school, etc.” Ruth Gardner
